The highest points in Knox County are located just north of New Delaware Road, about five miles west-southwest of Mt. Vernon.
The original topo depicts five nebulous 1420+ ft contours, but LiDAR DEM analysis provides that three of these contours can be eliminated. This is confirmed by Bob Schwab's trip report, which mentions that the two eastern (larger) contours on the original topo are likely the highest spots.
The two smallest areas on the original topo barely pass 1420 feet according to the LiDAR DEM. Note that the "sixth area" listed in the COHP book is actually a continuation of the southernmost of these tiny contours, as it passes into another quad. Just north of these areas is the west-central area on the original topo, which is shown to barely pass 1422 feet.
This leaves the two larger areas to the east, which both pass 1426 feet in elevation. The southern of these areas actually has two small areas that go above 1426 feet within the original 1420+ ft contour. The northern area is even higher, with a large area depicted above 1426 feet, and a maximum elevation of 1427.2 feet. The tiny contour inside this area is actually a depression back below 1426 feet, and not a higher area.
As such, I will recommend that only the two eastern (larger) contours need to be visited to claim the county. Be aware that the southern contour contains two distinct areas above 1426 feet.
