Licking HP

The original topo map for the Licking County high point was drawn rather strangely -- with a large area of 1350+ ft, and a tiny extension containing an even smaller 1360+ ft contour. The LiDAR DEM seems to make more physical sense, depicting the larger area as the highest point in the county.

The area is located south of Sportsman Club Road, southwest of New Way. The large 1350+ ft area is located in a field, with an air traffic comms tower known as a VORTAC in the middle of it (the VORTAC is the Appleton VORTAC, with station ID APE). The LiDAR DEM depicts a few 2-ft contours of 1358+ ft right along the boundary line between two fields, near an unidentified benchmark. The maximum elevation is 1358.7 feet, and this is likely the location of the county's actual highest point. As such, I propose that the area near the benchmark should be visited to claim the county.

The southern area (the original 1360+ ft contour) may be worth the visit anyway, since it appears easy to visit. However, the LiDAR DEM only depicts a maximum elevation of 1356.0 feet. It is unlikely to be the true high point.
