Northern Area

The northern area (near Vineyard Point) is located about 5 miles northwest of Brockway.

The original topo map depicts a large and nebulous 2160+ foot contour, roughly bisected by an east-to-west running road.

The LiDAR DEM indicates slightly lower elevations, with a small 2160+ foot contour located at the southeast end of the original contour. This is located where a trail is depicted heading southeast from the main road. The LiDAR DEM provides a maximum elevation for this point of 2163.1 feet. A second rise is located along the road in the west-central portion of the original contour, and has a maximum elevation of 2159.6 feet.

Southern Area

The area with BM Jeff is located about 8.5 miles east-southeast of Punxsutawney.

It is clear from all sources that this area has been heavily disturbed. The original topo indicates that BM Jeff is located in an area just north of the road. The highest elevation given by the LiDAR DEM in the vicinity of BM Jeff is 2164.8 feet.

The LiDAR DEM also indicates a much higher area to the southeast of BM Jeff, still within Jefferson County. This area has a maximum elevation of 2171.4 feet. This area may be artificial, as it matches the contours on the original topo only marginally well, and is right in the middle of a unnatural looking area on aerial photography. It appears best that all candidate areas should be visited.
