Lapeer County High Point Trip Report

Mount Christie, BM Thomas (1,280+ ft) - 31-6N-10E

Date: April 15, 2005
Author: Andy Hatzos

Mount Christie is the first high point I visited, and it was an enjoyable (and easy) trip. I approached from M-24 (Lapeer Road) and took Davison Lake Road to the west, until I reached the Mount Christie Estates clubhouse. I parked there, and hiked across tennis courts and a field, to get to the road mentioned in the other trip reports. I noted that this road was, in fact, open. I didn't mind the extra walk, though.

From there, it was an easy hike up the gravel road to the top. As was mentioned previously, there were no signs of the BM, but instead a flagpole and gazebo greeted me peacefully at the summit. It appears that the absolute highest point is either underneath the gazebo, or about 5-10 feet to the northwest of it.

The view of the area was absolutely incredible in all directions but west. I could see the Pontiac Silverdome, as well as the Pine Knob ski area. As this is also the highest point in all of Michigan south of Saginaw Bay (tied with Hillsdale County), Mount Christie is assuredly one of the area's best kept secrets.
