Morrow County High Point Trip Report
1 area in the N 1/2 of N 1/2, 21-20N-19W (1480+ ft.)
Date: June 7, 2009

This trip report will detail an ascent of the eastern of the two original areas. The other candidate area was eliminated based on my LiDAR elevation analysis.
I exited Interstate 71 at exit 165, and headed northeast on State Route 97 through Lexington. Shortly after crossing through downtown, I turned left (west) on Lexington - Steam Corners Road. I crossed the Richland/Morrow county line at Texter Road (also listed as Eckert Road). I turned left (southwest) at the next road, Denman Road. From here, the rise of the county high point is quite evident in the field west of the road. Denman Road is also signed for The White Fence Inn, a bed-and-breakfast just south of the high point.
I parked in the first driveway on the left, at address 8957. I did not find anyone home, so I walked east into the barren corn field. Even though most nearby fields were already planted, this one did not look like it had been touched since the harvest. The highest point is no more than 200 feet from Denman Road. The views are respectable, but not spectacular. A rise in the distance to the north was quite evident, however. I was able to identify it as the hill containing the highest point in Richland County.
Speaking of Richland County, I immediately headed there after claiming Morrow County. The two points are about five miles apart by road and should certainly be visited together. The high point of Morrow County is the third highest in the state, while the high point of Richland County is the second highest.
PICTURES:
Picture 01 (73 k) - Looking southwest down Denman Road, from the intersection with Lexington - Steam Corners Road. The high point is just to the right of the road as it crests.
Picture 02 (139 k) - Looking northeast from the high point in the field. The farm on the other side of the road was my parking spot.
Picture 03 (123 k) - The view to the west-northwest. The rise near the radio tower is the other candidate high point, which was eliminated from contention with LiDAR data.
