Summit County High Point Trip Report
1 area 3/4 mile north of West Richfield (1320+ ft.)
Date: September 21, 2009
Author: Andy Hatzos
I completed this high point immediately after visiting the highest point in Medina County, and prior to visiting the high point of Cuyahoga County. All three are within a few miles of each other.
This trip report will detail an ascent of the northern of the two original areas. The southern candidate area was eliminated based on my LiDAR elevation analysis, which corroborated field reports from other highpointers.
I approached from the intersection of State Route 303 (Streetsboro Road) and State Route 176 (Broadview Road) in Richfield. From here, it is about 3/4 of a mile northwest to reach the high point. I parked on the west side of the road, on the grass near the entrance to the Girl Scout Camp Hilaka. Just south of the camp road is a large blue sign. The sign reads:
Highest Point
in Summit County
Elevation 1,320 Ft.
Alan Brubaker, P.E., P.S.
County Engineer
I then crossed Broadview Road to the east, and walked up to the actual high point at house 4373. No one was home at the time of my visit, but it requires no more than a 15-second walk through the front yard to claim the county. The ground in the front yard of the house is clearly about five feet higher than the ground near the blue sign.

Picture 02 (112 k) - The sign on the right, and the actual high ground near the house on the left.
Picture 03 (141 k) - Looking west from the actual high point, with the sign on the left, and my parking place straight ahead.
Picture 04 (162 k) - The front yard of the house. The base of the pictured tree is as good a candidate for the absolute highest ground as any.
