Andy's Player Collections

Highlighting the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League.

Back to my card homepage.

Welcome to my player collection website! Below is a complete listing of all 49 players that I collect. Included in the table are statistical figures: how many cards I own, how many cards there are total, and what percentage of completion I have reached. In addition, there is a link to each player's individual page, which contains the master checklist of all of that player's cards, and also displays (in bold and underline) which cards I am still looking for. Also, I'm slowly adding pictures to each of the player pages, so be sure to check for those. Below the chart on this page is some additional information about my player collections. Thank you for taking the time to look over my site!

-- Why the Detroit Vipers?
My family started going regularly to Detroit Vipers hockey games in the 1996-1997 season, and I was there when the team won the Turner Cup Championship that season against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. Shortly thereafter, through a roundabout turn of events, I found my way into the media as a volunteer reporter for the Vipers; first for a local radio station, and then for a local newspaper. I held that media position for the final four seasons of the Vipers' existence, up until 2001 when the entire International Hockey League was forced to fold operations. The experience was a very positive one for me, as I was able to meet, interview, and talk with so many different people; not only from the Vipers, but from the rest of the hockey world as well. I decided to honor that experience, in a sense, by collecting the cards of some of those players who I worked with.

-- What counts towards the collections?
For the sake of my collections, I count all cards from officially released major-issue sets, as well as all cards from European, minor-league, or team-issue sets as well. I count all official cards, regardless of rarity, which means that even 1/1 cards will count towards the player's total. However, I do not count show-stamped promotional cards. I have been very thorough in the creation of these player checklists, and believe them to be as accurate as possible. However, if there are any cards that I am missing, please let me know, and I will look into correcting the problem. It goes without saying that if anyone owns any cards that I still need for my collection, I will be very interested in acquiring them.

-- About the checklists:
The first step in creating these "master lists" for the players I collect was a direct copy-and-paste from Beckett's Online Price Guide. I then cross-checked these lists for accuracy using the Beckett Big Book, and the Internet Hockey Database's card database. After doing that, I made final additions or deletions to the list by referencing my collection and my own knowledge. After cleaning up the lists grammatically, and re-arranging some of the parallel sets in order of increasing scarcity, I was content with the lists being as accurate, and presentable, as I could create them to be. On the checklists, the cards which I do not own are bolded and underlined. In addition, the 1/1 cards on the checklists are colored yellow.
